Ingredients for our quick apple pie
- 2 pounds apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup sugar or sugar substitute
- 2 tbsp whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cake layers (store bought or homemade)
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 2 tablespoons coarse sugar (optional) or sugar substitute
Preparation – Quick apple pie
- Preheat the oven to 190°C.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced ​​apples, lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Roll out the dough and place it in a tart pan.
- Pour the apple mixture onto the cake base and brush with the butter.
- Roll out the second layer of cake and place it on top of the apples. Trim and crimp the edges to seal.
- Brush the top of the cake with beaten egg and sprinkle with caster sugar.
- Cut a few slits in the top of the cake to allow steam to escape.
- Bake the pie for 45-55 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Allow the cake to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
