But where does the pumpkin actually come from?
The popular squash originally comes from Central and South America. For 10,000 years, pumpkins have been one of the staple foods of the population. It is said that Christopher Columbus discovered the pumpkin.
In Central Europe, the pumpkin was long considered animal feed, which can be traced back to the 20th century.
In Germany, too, the pumpkin was initially used exclusively for oil production and as animal feed. This has changed enormously in recent years.
The best known are the yellow centner varieties and Hokkaido from East Asia.
